Senior Power Electronics Engineer (Subsea Energy)

hirify.global is a pre-revenue clean-energy startup developing modular subsea geothermal power plants that convert ocean-floor thermal resources into baseload power.

What you will do

• Architect subsea power conversion and distribution systems from generator interfaces through export and load integration.
• Select and justify AC-DC, DC-DC, and DC-AC converter topologies based on efficiency, fault tolerance, thermal constraints, and scalability.
• Design and release high-power PCBAs, including schematics, magnetics, gate drives, current sensing, isolation, protection, and layout reviews.
• Collaborate with mechanical, controls, subsea systems, and offshore operations teams on packaging, thermal management, pressure-tolerant enclosures, and high-voltage isolation.
• Lead board bring-up, full-load validation, efficiency and thermal testing, EMI testing, and controlled fault injection.
• Own fabrication release, vendor coordination, revision control, production readiness, field-performance analysis, and root-cause investigations.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience designing and shipping power electronics hardware in demanding or high-reliability environments.
• Experience architecting complete power systems and designing high-power PCBAs through production.
• Deep knowledge of power conversion, topology tradeoffs, control-loop stability, magnetics, switching losses, thermal modeling, and efficiency optimization.
• Strong understanding of grounding, shielding, EMI mitigation, creepage and clearance, high di/dt layouts, insulation coordination, and protection strategies.
• Hands-on experience bringing up high-power hardware, debugging instability and noise, analyzing parasitics, and performing fault injection.
• Strong cross-disciplinary communication skills, ownership of critical electrical systems, and comfort working in an ambiguous startup environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-voltage systems or DC buses.
• Practical experience with subsea, marine, offshore, or other harsh operating environments.
