TL;DR
Research Associate, Genome Engineering (Synthetic Biology): Developing and testing multiplex genome engineering tools, high-throughput gene-editing assays, and workflows for manipulating large DNA fragments and genomes with an accent on molecular biology, cloning, and mammalian cell engineering. Focus on assessing genome-editing efficiency through Sanger/NGS sequencing, maintaining laboratory workflows, and supporting ambitious conservation and de-extinction research.
Location: Based in Dallas, TX; relocation assistance is available.

What you will do
- Support the design, development, and testing of multiplex genome engineering tools in mammalian cells.
- Perform molecular biology workflows, including plasmid DNA preparation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and gel analysis.
- Generate high-throughput assays for gene-editing workflows.
- Assess genome-editing efficiency using Sanger and next-generation sequencing approaches.
- Support inventory management, stock preparation, equipment maintenance, lab meetings, progress reports, and project milestones.
- Learn and implement new laboratory techniques while maintaining organized records.
Requirements
- Bachelorβs or Masterβs degree in biological sciences, bioengineering, molecular biology, genetics, or a related scientific field.
- Hands-on experience in molecular biology, including nucleic acid and protein extraction, gel electrophoresis, and cloning.
- Experience with restriction enzyme-based cloning and Gibson assembly.
- Prior hands-on research experience in academia or industry is highly desirable.
- Strong written and oral communication, organizational, laboratory documentation, and creative problem-solving skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with PCR, flow cytometry, mammalian cell culture, SnapGene, Geneious, electronic lab notebooks, or laboratory inventory systems.
