Location: Remote/Hybrid, with current candidates required to live in or be willing to move to a commutable distance from an office in the Washington, D.C., Louisville, Denver, Dallas, or Ft. Lauderdale metropolitan areas; approximately 3 days per week in office may be required.
Salary: $106,900–$147,000 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus incentive plan.

What you will do
- Design, build, and maintain Java and Drools business rules governing eligibility, suppression, frequency capping, and consent.
- Build and own Java/Spring services and REST APIs that expose the rules engine.
- Produce and consume Kafka events connecting upstream signals with downstream decisioning and activation.
- Write thorough tests and ensure rule logic is precise, deterministic, auditable, and resilient to retries.
- Optimize rule evaluation performance as traffic and the ruleset grow, including reliable recovery from crashes and redeployments.
- Collaborate with Product and compliance to translate business and regulatory requirements into maintainable rules.
Requirements
- Hybrid location requirement: candidates must currently live in or be willing to move to a commutable distance from one of the listed U.S. metropolitan areas.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a relevant field.
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with strong Java and Spring/Spring Boot skills.
- Production experience building backend services and REST APIs, with knowledge of Kafka producer and consumer patterns.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, Azure or equivalent, containers/Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
- Strong testing discipline, attention to correctness, and clear communication across engineering, Product, and compliance.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with Drools or another business rules management system.
- Familiarity with React and TypeScript for rule-authoring or administrative interfaces.
- Experience in healthcare, insurance, or another regulated industry.
- Familiarity with Helm or Terraform for Kubernetes deployment.

- Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week, with some flexibility based on business needs.
