TL;DR
Associate Quality Engineer (Energetics Manufacturing): Supporting quality systems and manufacturing quality for explosives, propellants, pyrotechnics, and related energetic materials with an accent on inspection plans, CAPA, audits, and regulatory compliance. Focus on analyzing nonconformances, participating in failure investigations and FMEA, and maintaining strict safety and handling requirements in a high-hazard manufacturing environment.

Location: Pueblo, Colorado or Penrose, Colorado. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain required U.S. export authorizations under ITAR/EAR.

Salary: $65,000–$85,000 USD base annual salary.

What you will do

  • Support quality systems compliant with ISO 9001, AS9100, customer specifications, and ATF, DoD, and OSHA requirements.
  • Help define and follow process controls, inspection plans, and acceptance criteria in energetics manufacturing.
  • Participate in root cause analysis, CAPA, failure investigations, material review boards, and risk assessments.
  • Review manufacturing procedures, inspection instructions, and quality records for energetics production.
  • Support internal, customer, regulatory, certification, and supplier audits and corrective actions.
  • Collect and analyze quality metrics while collaborating with Engineering, Manufacturing, EHS, and Supply Chain.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related Engineering.
  • 0–2 years of quality engineering experience; internships, co-ops, and academic projects are relevant.
  • Foundational knowledge of quality management systems, inspection methods, and statistical techniques.
  • Exposure to 5 Whys, Fishbone, SPC, or similar root cause analysis tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to meet State and Federal explosives licensing requirements, including being at least 21 and passing background checks.

Nice to have

  • Experience or coursework in energetics, explosives, aerospace, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing.
  • Interest in ASQ Certified Quality Technician or Certified Quality Engineer certification.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, DoD quality requirements, configuration management, and controlled documentation.
  • Understanding of government contract requirements and customer quality clauses.
