Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Third Shift (Fusion Energy)

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States. On-site, Monday through Friday, 10:00 pm–6:30 am; occasional nights, weekends, on-call work, and travel may be required.

Salary: $134,000–$205,000 per year, plus a 15% third-shift differential, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, implement, analyze, and optimize manufacturing processes to improve productivity, efficiency, cost, and product quality.
• Own magnet manufacturing for the third shift, make real-time decisions within defined guardrails, and escalate issues when limits are exceeded.
• Develop and maintain work instructions, SOPs, process-flow diagrams, and other process documentation.
• Collaborate with design, product development, production, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to ensure manufacturability.
• Lead tooling, fixture, and equipment design and procurement; troubleshoot process and equipment issues and implement corrective actions.
• Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, time and motion studies, automation, and continuous improvement practices while ensuring safety and standards compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production engineering role.
• Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality systems.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as NX, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD, and with manufacturing ERP systems.
• Ability to balance autonomy with disciplined escalation and demonstrate leadership through hands-on engagement.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and perform typing, standing, stooping, and sitting for extended periods.
• Dedication to safety when working around potential hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics.
• Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights, weekends, and on-call shifts.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA).
