TL;DR
Senior RF/DSP Engineer (Counter-UAS): Developing RF detection and classification capabilities for Counter-UAS products from complex-IQ analysis through production C++ implementation, with an accent on waveform characterization, digital communications, and real-world validation. Focus on designing detectors, demodulators, and protocol-recovery algorithms, solving interference and synchronization problems, and quantifying performance in laboratory and field data.

Location: Leesburg, VA, United States. U.S. Citizenship is required; the role involves ITAR/EAR-controlled information.

Salary: $128,000–$195,250 per year

Company

hirify.global develops autonomous and defense systems across air, land, sea, space, and cyber domains.

What you will do

  • Analyze wideband complex-IQ recordings from known and unfamiliar RF systems.
  • Characterize waveforms, modulation, synchronization, channel access, frequency hopping, framing, and coding.
  • Design controlled experiments and develop algorithms for detection, demodulation, classification, tracking, and protocol recovery.
  • Implement and optimize production DSP capabilities in modern C++ for Linux.
  • Build synthetic waveforms, replay fixtures, automated tests, and maintainable algorithm components.
  • Validate performance using laboratory, over-the-air, conducted, and field-recorded data while collaborating with RF, FPGA, embedded software, data science, test, and mission teams.

Requirements

  • BS or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Substantial professional experience developing RF, communications, radar, electronic-warfare, or related signal-processing systems.
  • Strong DSP and digital-communications fundamentals, including filtering, FFT and time-frequency analysis, detection and estimation, synchronization, modulation, and channel coding.
  • Experience analyzing real complex-IQ data, investigating unfamiliar signals, designing controlled experiments, and debugging DSP algorithms.
  • Production-quality C++ development in Linux, automated testing, recorded-data replay, and Git-based collaboration.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required; ITAR/EAR compliance applies.

Nice to have

  • Reverse-engineering undocumented wireless waveforms and protocols.
  • Software-defined radio, RF laboratory, frequency-hopping, spread-spectrum, OFDM, cellular, telemetry, radar, or electronic-warfare experience.
  • FPGA-based DSP, fixed-point implementation, hardware/software partitioning, or high-rate sample transport.
  • Real-time C++ optimization using profiling, SIMD, threading, bounded queues, and reusable buffers.
  • Direction finding, antenna arrays, emitter geolocation, or machine learning applied to RF data.

Culture & Benefits

  • Individual-contributor role with hands-on ownership from signal investigation through integration and field validation.
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • 401(k) with company matching.
  • 9/80 work schedule and paid holiday shutdown.
