Avionics Engineer (PX4/ArduPilot)

Salary: $120,000–$155,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Develop and integrate avionics systems for unmanned vehicle platforms.
• Define and maintain avionics functionality across vehicle iterations and updates.
• Create high-level block diagrams representing system functions and interfaces.
• Collaborate with GNC, software, mechanical, thermal, and vehicle teams to define electrical and system requirements.
• Design and provide technical support for iron birds, prototypes, and special projects.
• Integrate and test sensors and subsystems, troubleshoot hardware and software, and create configuration, verification, and technician-training procedures.

Requirements

• Authorization to work in the United States is required; access to ITAR/EAR-controlled technology may be required without export-license sponsorship.
• 1–4 years of experience with unmanned aerial systems.
• Knowledge of PX4 or ArduPilot, QGroundControl or Mission Planner, Pixhawk, MAVLink, and unmanned-system sensors.
• Experience with RF systems, software-defined radios, communications-link troubleshooting, networking diagnostics, Wireshark, and iperf3.
• Understanding of electronics, power systems, communication protocols, schematics, PCB-level debugging, Altium, and laboratory tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, soldering equipment, and power supplies.
• Working knowledge of Linux, GitHub, technical documentation, and the ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.

Nice to have

• Experience with fixed-wing or jet-powered vehicles.
• Custom PX4 or ArduPilot firmware modifications, driver implementation, simulation, and system integration.
• Knowledge of UORB, ROS2, EKF, visual navigation, multivehicle configuration, autonomous systems, and defense UAS capabilities.
• Experience with MIMO, interference avoidance, communications encryption, Python, C++, Arduino, NX, or Teamcenter.
• Familiarity with Lucidchart, draw.io, or comparable architecture-visualization tools.
