Software Engineer, Technical Lead (Go)

Location: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada and must not require employer-sponsored work authorization or visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Salary: CAD $146,500–$164,500 per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of secure user and account management systems for Workbench.
• Build scalable backend services and user interfaces using Go, Java, React, TypeScript, and Terraform.
• Collaborate with Product Management and cross-functional engineering teams to define and deliver high-impact features.
• Drive technical discussions and contribute to system architecture decisions.
• Mentor engineers and improve system reliability, performance, and user experience.

Requirements

• 5+ years of industry experience as a full-stack or backend software engineer.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills in cross-functional environments.
• Ability to work independently and produce clear, structured technical documentation.
• Experience with scalable backend systems or APIs and expertise in Golang.
• Legal authorization to work in Canada without employer-sponsored visa or work permit support.

Nice to have

• Leadership experience in technical direction, mentoring, and system design.
• Familiarity with React and TypeScript.
• Cloud computing expertise with Google Cloud Platform or AWS.
• Interest in developing tools for computational biology and genomics research.
