Engineering Manager (Cloud Backend, AI Detection and Response)

Location: USA - Sunnyvale, CA; hybrid, with 2–3 days per week on-site

Salary: $140,000–$215,000 per year, plus bonus and equity eligibility

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, recruit, and develop a backend engineering team building cloud-native provisioning and orchestration services.
• Own the technical vision and roadmap for customer onboarding, provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management.
• Drive architecture for highly scalable, reliable, and secure distributed systems and microservices.
• Contribute approximately 20–30% hands-on coding through production development, prototyping, and incident resolution.
• Establish engineering practices covering code reviews, testing, CI/CD, runbooks, sprint planning, and delivery.
• Own service reliability, incident response, root-cause analysis, and collaboration with product and engineering stakeholders.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software development experience with enterprise-grade cloud products and 3+ years leading backend engineering teams.
• Strong production coding ability and experience leading teams building cloud-native microservices at scale.
• Strong foundation in distributed systems, cloud architecture, microservices, provisioning, orchestration, and lifecycle management.
• Experience with Go, Python, or Java; Go is preferred.
• Experience with REST, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, databases such as PostgreSQL, Redis, or Cassandra, containers, Kubernetes, and event systems such as Kafka or Pulsar.
• Experience operating cloud services, managing reliability and incident response, hiring and developing engineers, and working with Agile/Scrum delivery practices.

Nice to have

• Cybersecurity or security-focused product experience and knowledge of AI/ML security threats and mitigations.
• Experience with large-scale customer onboarding, multi-tenant orchestration, platform services, or major migrations and re-architecture efforts.
• Experience with OCI, GCP, Azure, real-time data processing, MS Copilot Ecosystem, or MS Agent Studio.
• Golang experience, open-source contributions, or experience building engineering culture and processes from the ground up.
