Engineering Manager (AI Cloud Infrastructure)

Location: Hybrid, with presence required 4 days per week at the San Francisco, San Jose, or Bellevue office; designated work-from-home day is Tuesday.

Annual salary: $330,000–$440,000 in San Francisco or San Jose; $297,000–$396,000 in Bellevue.

What you will do

• Lead the design, implementation, and production operation of foundational cloud-platform services, including Managed Kubernetes.
• Own the technical roadmap for distributed, resilient, observable, and operationally efficient platform capabilities.
• Ensure reliable operation across a growing multi-datacenter and multi-region fleet, including partial failures and long-running workflows.
• Partner with senior and staff engineers on architecture across distributed services, stateful systems, APIs, schedulers, controllers, and automation.
• Define integration contracts between the platform and compute, networking, fleet, security, and customer-facing systems.
• Lead and grow senior and staff engineers while owning planning, delivery, engineering practices, incident response, and on-call operations.

Requirements

• 4+ years of engineering management experience with a track record of growing high-performing teams.
• 7+ years of software engineering IC experience, including principal- or staff-level ownership of mission-critical distributed systems.
• 8+ years implementing business-critical services in Python or Go from conception through production.
• Experience building systems that coordinate across independently owned compute, networking, and storage infrastructure services without owning them directly.
• Background in multi-region deployment strategies, cross-datacenter state management, and high-availability architectures.
• Track record of owning projects end to end, including architecture, delivery, operations, and continuous improvement.
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration and the ability to drive alignment across infrastructure, platform, and product teams.

Nice to have

• Awareness of bare-metal and GPU infrastructure, including NVIDIA NiCo, BlueField DPU capabilities, and multi-tenant bare-metal management standards.
• Experience evaluating or adopting vendor infrastructure tooling, including full migrations and assessment of fit, risk, and timing.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes or Slurm.
• Experience in the AI, ML, or GPU hardware industry.
• Experience designing large-scale cloud IaaS platforms from the ground up.
• Exposure to IPO readiness, enterprise compliance, or security requirements at scale.
