Principal Test Engineer

Location: Wilmington, Massachusetts, United States; regular work in cleanroom, laboratory, and manufacturing environments

Salary: $109,750–$182,900 per year, plus eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus

What you will do

• Lead particle testing, characterization, and analysis for product development, manufacturing, customer investigations, and reliability programs.
• Manage daily operations of the particle metrology laboratory and maintain testing capability, accuracy, and uptime.
• Maintain particle counters, metrology systems, cleanroom infrastructure, laboratory equipment, and supporting systems.
• Develop, validate, document, and improve test methods, measurement procedures, and laboratory standards.
• Provide technical leadership for contamination control, particle-generation studies, cleanliness verification, and failure investigations.
• Lead equipment qualification, preventive maintenance, calibration programs, laboratory expansion, and cross-functional root-cause investigations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, physics, electrical engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 8+ years of experience managing complex laboratories.
• Extensive experience operating and maintaining particle metrology, contamination-control, or analytical laboratory equipment.
• Expertise in cleanroom operations, contamination-control practices, laboratory safety, and environmental health and safety procedures.
• Experience developing, validating, and documenting test methods and measurement procedures, with strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
• Ability to lead technical projects, influence cross-functional teams, and communicate results through technical reports and presentations.

Nice to have

• Experience with semiconductor capital equipment, vacuum systems, gas delivery systems, plasma products, or advanced manufacturing.
• Knowledge of ISO cleanroom standards, contamination-control methodologies, and particle measurement technologies.
• Experience with statistical data analysis, Design of Experiments, measurement system analysis, automated data acquisition, or LIMS.
• Experience managing laboratory budgets, capital equipment planning, vendor relationships, or mentoring laboratory personnel.
