Lead Firmware Engineer (Robotics)

Location: On-site in London, UK

Company

Building commercially scalable, safe hirify.global robots, including the HMND-01 Alpha platform for industrial pilots.

What you will do

• Develop and debug firmware for hirify.global robots, including motion control, stabilization, sensor integration, and Ethernet communication.
• Design drivers for motors, sensors, microcontrollers, peripherals, and communication protocols.
• Develop and test real-time control algorithms for robotic movement and balance.
• Optimize embedded firmware for performance, reliability, power efficiency, security, and fail-safe operation.
• Collaborate with hardware and systems teams on embedded systems integration.
• Lead and mentor junior engineers through code reviews, documentation, version control, and engineering best practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years of embedded systems development experience, preferably in robotics.
• Strong C and C++ skills for microcontrollers, with experience in RTOS environments such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr and in bare-metal systems.
• Hands-on experience with ARM Cortex, STM32, or similar platforms.
• Experience with UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and Ethernet communication protocols.
• Understanding of control systems, kinematics, and motion algorithms, plus experience leading and mentoring engineers.
• Experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, Git, CI/CD, and Agile methodologies.

Nice to have

• Experience with or interest in Rust for embedded systems.
