Payroll Manager

Location: Remote; candidates based in Central and Eastern time zones are preferred, while candidates elsewhere will also be considered. U.S. work authorization is verified through E-Verify.

Salary: $100,000–$132,000 base salary annually, plus a target annual bonus of 10% and potential additional incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Own full-cycle payroll processing for salaried employees, hourly employees, and contractors, including pre-payroll review, reconciliation, discrepancy resolution, and timely disbursement.
• Process off-cycle payrolls, manual checks, retroactive adjustments, and final pay calculations in accordance with applicable state requirements.
• Handle employee payroll inquiries involving pay stubs, direct deposits, tax withholding, corrections, and payroll self-service features.
• Manage quarterly and annual payroll tax filings and remittances, including Forms 941, W-2s, 1099s, and state and local equivalents.
• Configure automated payroll workflows and approval chains while documenting processes, procedures, and internal controls.
• Partner with HR, Benefits, Finance, and Compliance on deductions, system initiatives, budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and financial planning.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of progressive payroll management experience, including payroll processing for 200+ employees across multiple states.
• Hands-on experience with California and Illinois payroll is required.
• At least 2 years of direct experience administering Rippling or a similar workforce management platform, including system configuration, pay group management, tax settings, and workflow automation.
• Advanced payroll reconciliation, VLOOKUP, pivot table, and data analysis skills, plus understanding of integrations with benefits, time and attendance, and general ledger platforms.
• Employment authorization in the United States is verified through E-Verify.

Nice to have

• Experience in a standalone or lead payroll role.
• Experience with ADP, Paylocity, Workday, payroll implementations, transitions, or employee system training.
• CPP certification; FPC certification is also considered.
