Operations Manager (Waste-to-Energy)

Location: Onsite in Kapolei, Hawaii, USA; primarily Monday through Friday during daytime hours, with occasional evenings, weekends, off-hours, and on-call responsibilities. Relocation assistance is available to qualified candidates.

Salary: $136,600–$195,300 USD per annum.

What you will do

• Lead, direct, and motivate the Operations team at a thermomechanical treatment facility.
• Oversee plant operations to maintain safe, reliable, and optimal boiler and turbine performance.
• Provide environmental, health, and safety leadership while ensuring compliance with permits, procedures, and regulations.
• Translate business strategy into operating plans, continuous-improvement initiatives, and departmental performance indicators.
• Develop staffing plans, coach employees, and build leadership capability and succession strength.
• Partner with business and supply chain teams to coordinate operating schedules and respond to customer requirements.

Requirements

• Approximately 10 years of broad plant operations experience, including supervisory or managerial responsibility.
• Experience leading and developing employees in an industrial or power-generation environment.
• Knowledge of industrial safety practices, regulatory compliance, municipal solid waste combustion, and materials handling.
• Experience with boiler, turbine, electrical, or mechanical generating operations is highly desirable.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred; relevant supervisory experience may substitute.
• Ability to work onsite and perform physical work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, working at heights, entering confined spaces, and wearing required safety equipment.

Nice to have

• Power plant, waste-to-energy, energy-from-waste, or related generating-facility experience.
• ASME QRO/CFO certification, or the ability to qualify within six months.
• Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, operational excellence, or comparable methodologies.
