Software Engineer (AI)

Location: New York City, United States; hybrid work with at least 3 days per week in the New York City office

Salary: $210,000–$250,000 annual total compensation, plus equity and comprehensive benefits.

hirify.global develops Astro, a DataOps platform powered by Apache Airflow, helping enterprises build and operate reliable data products, analytics, AI, and data-driven applications.

What you will do

• Design and build the foundation and applications for hirify.global’s global data context layer.
• Develop components for data modeling, semantic search, information retrieval, and code generation.
• Experiment with LLMs, embeddings, vector databases, and advanced retrieval techniques.
• Turn applied AI research into scalable product experiences with R&D and product teams.
• Solve large-scale search and information retrieval challenges across data pipelines.
• Shape technical architecture and represent hirify.global through open-source contributions, talks, and publications.

Requirements

• 5–8 years of software engineering experience with Python or Go.
• Experience with, or strong interest in, LLMs, vector databases, embeddings, or other applied AI areas.
• Empathy for users and a strong interest in improving data professionals’ workflows.
• Creative, experimental mindset with the ability to validate hypotheses and iterate in ambiguous environments.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, including explaining complex systems to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work from the New York City office at least 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Passion for AI systems for data, developer tools, or machine learning infrastructure.
• Familiarity with Apache Airflow or other orchestration tools.
• Open-source contributions and experience with search, information retrieval, or large-scale data infrastructure.
• Experience in early-stage startups or R&D organizations.
• Experience building agentic systems on top of frontier models.
