Principal EO/IR Systems Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and developing electro-optical/infrared system architectures for complex aerospace applications with an accent on requirements engineering, MBSE, modeling, integration, and verification. Location: On-site in Melbourne, Florida, United States; approximately 10% travel required.

Salary: $98,400–$147,600 annual base salary.

What you will do

  • Design EO/IR system architectures, including hardware/software integration, testing, certification, and requirements analysis.
  • Decompose, derive, allocate, document, and trace requirements from system level through component-level architectures.
  • Conduct architecture trade studies, performance analyses, technology readiness assessments, and supplier technology evaluations.
  • Apply MBSE practices to model requirements, interfaces, behaviors, structures, and parametric relationships.
  • Manage supplier specifications, technical assessments, design reviews, acquisition, qualification, integration, and testing activities.
  • Plan and execute laboratory, ground, and flight testing to verify and validate subsystem requirements and support final system sell-off.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with at least 5 years of related professional or military engineering experience; equivalent alternatives include a master’s degree with 3 years or a Ph.D. with 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of EO/IR phenomenology and experience working with electro-optical or infrared systems.
  • Experience decomposing, deriving, allocating, and tracing technical requirements across system and component levels.
  • Strong communication, analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for positions requiring government clearance.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Melbourne, Florida and travel approximately 10% of the time.

Nice to have

  • Experience with EO/IR system or atmospheric modeling, laboratory testing, hardware/software verification, or concept development.
  • Familiarity with MBSE and SysML tools such as Cameo, plus Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience with Agile development, engineering scheduling, technical proposal development, supplier specifications, and subcontract management.
