TL;DR
Systems Engineer (Aerospace & Defense): Developing and maintaining system-level requirements, verification artifacts, and design-review deliverables for modular motion control systems with an accent on requirements traceability, cross-functional integration, and formal aerospace documentation. Focus on decomposing requirements, connecting test evidence to certification submittals, managing design-review inputs, and surfacing hardware-software-mechanical integration risks.

Location: Torrance, California; onsite

Salary: $130,000–$150,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

Company

hirify.global develops modular motion technologies and motion-control components for industrial, aerospace, and defense applications.

What you will do

  • Author, maintain, and trace system-level requirements in JAMA while coordinating allocation and closure with discipline leads.
  • Develop systems engineering deliverables for PDR, CDR, and customer submissions, including interface control documents, system descriptions, and verification matrices.
  • Maintain traceability between verification activities, test results, requirements artifacts, customer data reports, and certification submissions.
  • Decompose and track lower-level work items in the Integrated Master Schedule, communicate status, and flag risks.
  • Facilitate engineering working sessions, design reviews, and cross-functional meetings while tracking action items through closure.
  • Coordinate daily across systems, hardware, software, and mechanical engineering to translate requirements into actionable inputs and identify integration risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years of systems or product engineering experience; meaningful multidisciplinary university project work may count.
  • Ability to understand subsystem interactions and the flow of requirements from system level to hardware and software.
  • Strong written communication and the ability to author clear, structured technical documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple open threads, track action items to closure, and keep stakeholders informed.

Nice to have

  • Experience with requirements management tools such as JAMA, DOORS, or equivalent.
  • Exposure to PDR and CDR processes in aerospace, defense, or complex hardware development.
  • Coursework or project experience with systems engineering methods including the V-model, MBSE, and functional decomposition.
  • Interest in applying MBSE to architecture, behavior, and interface definitions for motion-control and electromechanical systems.
  • Prior aerospace, defense, or hardware product development internship or co-op experience.

Culture & Benefits

  • Autonomous role within a lean, impact-focused startup.
  • Well-funded company already generating revenue.
  • Competitive compensation with equity.
  • Medical insurance fully covered by the company, plus additional healthcare benefits.
  • Flexible PTO and 401(k).
  • Work from a new large hangar facility in Hawthorne, California.
