Staff Software Engineer (Backend)

What you will do

• Design and implement distributed backend systems for high-throughput, low-latency workloads.
• Lead architecture and technical direction for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and serving services.
• Build and improve real-time and near-real-time data pipelines for large-scale platform use cases.
• Drive reliability, scalability, observability, automation, fault tolerance, recovery, and capacity planning.
• Improve performance across storage, compute, messaging, caching, and API layers while partnering with engineering teams on interfaces and schemas.
• Mentor engineers, lead technical initiatives, participate in incident response, and deliver durable platform improvements.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production backend systems at scale.
• Strong distributed-systems knowledge, including trade-offs involving consistency, availability, durability, and performance.
• Experience with data-intensive applications, event-driven or streaming architectures, APIs, service-to-service communication, and scalable data storage.
• Strong programming skills in Rust, Go, Java, Python, or a similar modern language.
• Experience with cloud-native infrastructure, containerized environments, debugging, and performance tuning across multi-service systems.
• Ability to lead technically across team boundaries and communicate architectural trade-offs clearly.

Nice to have

• Experience with observability, telemetry, stream processing, message brokers, asynchronous systems, distributed databases, or analytical data stores.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and modern cloud platform operations.
• Experience with schema evolution, metadata management, distributed data modeling, and internal platform capabilities.
• Experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives from design through rollout.
