Senior Associate Scientist (Upstream Process Development) (Biotechnology)

Location: On premise in Andover, Massachusetts, United States. Occasional weekend work and travel to internal meetings or external conferences may be required. Relocation assistance may be available based on business needs and eligibility.

Annual base salary: $68,600–$114,300, plus eligibility for a 7.5% bonus target.

What you will do

• Develop and optimize robust, scalable, and high-productivity cell culture processes for biological therapeutics.
• Design and execute experiments using shake flasks, bench-top bioreactors, and scale-down equipment.
• Conduct mammalian cell culture experiments to improve protein production.
• Support process transfer to pilot, clinical, and commercial manufacturing facilities.
• Present data and development strategies to scientists, management, project teams, and external audiences.
• Analyze and document experimental results in electronic laboratory notebooks and technical reports while following GLP and safety practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 2–4 years of industrial experience or a Master’s degree with 0–2 years of experience in chemical or biochemical engineering, cell biology, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
• Relevant laboratory research experience.
• Ability to interpret complex scientific data, formulate hypotheses, and design and execute experiments.
• Competence in aseptic laboratory technique and data interpretation.
• Demonstrated collaboration and communication skills in a highly matrixed organization.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States by any employer and hold permanent U.S. work authorization; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-throughput bioreactor platforms such as ambr15 and ambr250.
• Expertise in fed-batch or perfusion bioreactor operations, troubleshooting, process control, and scale-up.
• Experience with process modeling, multivariate data analysis, and predictive process understanding.
• Python programming, workflow automation, or app development for process development tools.
• Hands-on perfusion experience and enthusiasm for technology development.
