TL;DR
Mechanical System Integration and Test Engineer (Power Electronics): Architecting, designing, building, and operating mechanical fixtures and test infrastructure for medium-voltage power converters with an accent on system integration, reliability testing, and failure analysis. Focus on defining mechanical and electrical interfaces, developing physics-of-failure models, executing environmental and accelerated-life tests, and verifying design fixes through re-test.

Location: Scotts Valley, United States; on-site

Company

hirify.global is a startup developing scalable power-electronics hardware, including converters, inverters, and rectifiers for renewable energy, storage, loads, and grid electrification.

What you will do

  • Architect, design, release, and operate mechanical fixtures, wiring diagrams, automated high-voltage connections, and test infrastructure for manufacturing and functional testing.
  • Design and build fixtures and test setups for shock and vibration testing, ingress protection testing, dust, spray, water-jet, and immersion testing according to IEC 60529 methods.
  • Create 3D system layouts, packaging studies, interface definitions, and 2D drawings while tracking integration milestones and schedule risks.
  • Define and manage interfaces across enclosures, power electronics assemblies, busbars, cable routing, cooling systems, insulation, fasteners, connectors, and assembly hardware.
  • Own mechanical reliability test cycles, including test plans, fixture design, instrumentation, execution, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Lead mechanical failure analysis, translate findings into design or material changes, and verify fixes through re-testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or a similar field.
  • At least 3 years of full-time industry experience designing mechanical fixtures, test hardware, or electromechanical assemblies.
  • Strong 3D CAD experience and experience with manufacturing, functional, environmental sealing, shock/vibration, or qualification test setups.
  • Experience with reliability modeling, accelerated lifetime or degradation testing, mechanical failure analysis, and instrumentation and DAQ strategies.
  • Experience managing mechanical-electrical interfaces and influencing architecture decisions while tracking integration milestones.
  • Scripting experience in Python or MATLAB for test automation and data analysis, plus strong communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail.

Nice to have

  • GD&T, tolerance analysis, DFMEAs, PLM, and controlled release processes.
  • Experience with creepage and clearance, grounding, insulation systems, safety requirements, and thermal systems.
  • FEA experience with Ansys, SolidWorks Simulation, or similar tools.
  • Experience with medium-voltage or grid-related products, including converters, switchgear, circuit breakers, insulation, and shielding.

Culture & Benefits

  • Collaborative, technically enriching environment focused on personal, technical, and career growth.
  • First-principles engineering, hands-on execution, and learning by doing.
  • Cross-functional systems team spanning systems engineering, integration, reliability, testing, and failure analysis.
  • Opportunity to influence product architecture and reliability sign-off for medium-voltage power converters.
