Hardware Engineer (Robotics)

What you will do

• Define system- and component-level hardware architecture for autonomous construction machines.
• Design, characterize, integrate, and validate autonomy hardware for a growing fleet of retrofitted machines.
• Establish and lead vendor relationships and development programs for critical components and systems.
• Work with the safety team to define requirements and performance metrics.
• Develop reusable sensor data analysis and test automation software in Python, C++, C, or Rust.

Requirements

• 6+ years of relevant professional experience as a hardware engineer or in a related technical role.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
• Strong foundations in electrical design, hardware testing, deployment, and rugged outdoor systems.
• Experience leading hardware development programs from ideation through prototype, EVT, DVT, and production.
• Hands-on experience characterizing autonomy sensors such as lidar, radar, and cameras.
• Ability to prototype and debug hardware-system software and perform testing, data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Nice to have

• Camera and optics design, imaging pipelines, ISP tuning, compression, and storage.
• High-performance embedded compute, especially Nvidia Jetson platforms.
• High- and low-speed communication protocols including GMSL, FPD-Link, PCIe, multi-Gigabit Ethernet, CAN, UART, SPI, and RS-232/422/485.
• System engineering requirements definition, verification and validation, and construction hardware standards such as ISO 26262, ISO 16750, and SAE J1455.
• Experience with commercial construction equipment electrical and mechanical hardware.
