TL;DR
Senior Electrical Engineer (Aerospace): Building and validating electrical systems for the Elroy Air Chaparral, including the Iron Bird ground test platform, hybrid-electric powertrain, high-voltage distribution, and aerospace wire harnesses with an accent on safety, EMI/EMC mitigation, and flight-representative testing. Focus on designing test strategies and fixtures, debugging complex electrical systems, conducting hardware-in-the-loop and flight validation, and supporting FAA certification pathways.

Location: Byron, California; on-site. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident; all employees are screened through E-Verify.

hirify.global develops aerospace and logistics technology, including the Chaparral autonomous aircraft and its hybrid-electric propulsion systems.

What you will do

  • Lead the electrical layout, wiring, assembly, testing, and data analysis for the Chaparral Iron Bird ground test platform.
  • Build, test, and iterate on hybrid-electric powertrain systems integrating turbine powerplants, generators, high-voltage motors, and battery packs.
  • Develop and validate high-voltage distribution networks with safety isolation, grounding, EMI/EMC mitigation, and circuit protection.
  • Design, build, route, and rework aerospace-grade wire harnesses, including connector and shielding selection optimized for SWaP-C.
  • Define electrical test strategies, build test fixtures, conduct hardware-in-the-loop testing, and support ground and flight test operations.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, flight test, and systems engineering while maintaining safety documentation for FAA certification pathways.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional engineering experience, preferably in a fast-paced startup or small-team environment.
  • Experience developing electric vehicles, eVTOL aircraft, aerospace powertrains, or high-voltage DC distribution systems.
  • Extensive experience debugging electrical systems with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers.
  • Proficiency with electrical CAD tools for schematic capture, layout, and wire harness design.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities independently and solve ambiguous technical problems.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience designing electrical systems for autonomous systems or VTOL aircraft.
  • Experience with hybrid propulsion systems, aerospace certification frameworks, flight testing, and data analysis using Python or MATLAB.
