Staff Software Engineer (Native Infrastructure)

What you will do

• Own the roadmap for Bazel build rules, React Native bundling and code generation.
• Improve mobile release and deployment tooling, including OTA updates and staged rollouts.
• Lead the staged migration of mobile repositories into Canva's monorepo while maintaining build, test and release continuity.
• Define CI/CD quality gates and improve build and release reliability and speed.
• Develop shared React Native foundations for web and mobile platforms.
• Align Mobile Workflows, Cross Platform, Build Platform and DevX teams, while mentoring engineers and establishing monitoring and health signals.

Requirements

• Hands-on production-scale experience with Bazel, Gradle or Xcode build systems.
• Experience delivering complex projects across multiple teams, such as migrations, monorepo consolidation or build infrastructure initiatives.
• Strong native iOS, Android or combined mobile engineering background.
• Experience owning CI/CD or release pipelines used by other engineering teams.
• Knowledge of Bazel build rules, custom rule sets, monorepo configuration, React Native bundling and code generation.
• Experience with iOS and Android release tooling, OTA updates, staged rollouts and large-scale monorepos.

Nice to have

• Cross-language interoperability, native bridging or code generation automation across JavaScript and native runtimes.
• Mobile performance profiling and optimization experience.
• Experience driving engineering standards beyond the immediate team.
• Experience with mobile products serving a large, established user base.
