Data Processing Systems Engineer (Earth Observation)

hirify.global supports the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center, NASA, and the Landsat project through scientific and engineering systems for Earth observation data.

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, maintenance, and integration of scientific and engineering software systems.
• Define system requirements, operational concepts, design specifications, and integration and test plans.
• Analyze customer requirements, create prototypes, and validate technical solutions.
• Develop and execute integration, system, and acceptance testing while ensuring quality and compliance.
• Coordinate engineering work, manage schedules and configuration change requests, and support delivery milestones.
• Evaluate vendor software, conduct technology trade studies, and mentor and train engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in systems engineering or software development for scientific or engineering applications.
• Experience leading complex system design and integration efforts.
• Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle, configuration management, and quality assurance principles.
• Three years of continuous US residency are required for issuance of a government security credential.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation for government facility and system access.

Nice to have

• Project Management Professional (PMP) or AWS Solutions Architect certification.
• Agile methodology experience.
• Experience with hybrid-cloud architectures, containerization, image processing, database management, DOORS, Jira, or Confluence.
• Experience conducting trade studies and working with domestic and international stakeholders.
