Senior Systems Engineer (DoD)

Location: On-site in Arlington, Virginia, United States; at least 5 days per week in the office. Travel of up to 10% may be required.

Salary: $135,000–$273,000 per year. Additional published ranges are $135,000–$231,000 and $164,000–$273,000, depending on experience, skills, and education.

What you will do

• Define stakeholder needs, prioritized requirements, and project success criteria.
• Design and architect scalable DoD software systems balancing performance, reliability, and sustainability.
• Integrate system components, execute tests, and validate functional and quality requirements.
• Lead field test execution and resolve complex integration and operational issues.
• Analyze customer feedback, research findings, and performance trends to improve system effectiveness.
• Mentor peers, share engineering practices, and collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance required.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or another STEM field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 7+ years of relevant experience in system design, integration, and deployment, preferably involving DoD systems.
• Experience with SysML, UML, or other modeling languages; DoDAF or UAF; and MBSE tools such as MagicDraw, Cameo, Enterprise Architect, Teamwork Cloud, Rhapsody, or DOORS.
• Knowledge of systems analysis, verification, validation, optimization, SDLC approaches, and SE/MBSE methodologies.
• Strong technical leadership, communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Navy combat systems, including Aegis Weapon System or other Navy tactical applications.
• DoD Surface Warfare software development experience.
• Knowledge of networking, protocols, security practices, infrastructure as code, agile, DevOps, CI/CD, and tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Jira, Trello, Git, Jenkins, or GitLab.
• Programming experience with Java, C++, or Python.
