TL;DR
Software Engineer I, Perception (New Grad) (AI): Building hybrid computer-vision and deep-learning perception systems for autonomous spacecraft with an accent on multi-object tracking, coordinate transformations, and edge deployment. Focus on implementing Extended Kalman Filters, training PyTorch models, generating synthetic space imagery, and optimizing C++ algorithms for space-qualified processors.

Location: Onsite near Centennial, Colorado or Long Beach, California, United States

Base salary: $75,000 in Denver or $80,000 in Long Beach per year.

Company

hirify.global develops autonomous spacecraft, advanced payloads, mission software, and space-based interceptors for space-security and defense missions.

What you will do

  • Implement classical tracking algorithms, including Extended Kalman Filters, Hungarian data association, and track management logic.
  • Train and integrate neural networks for object detection, classification, threat discrimination, and re-identification.
  • Build hybrid perception pipelines from detections and tracking through coordinate transformations and angle-only navigation measurements.
  • Develop image-processing workflows including hot-pixel filtering, adaptive thresholding, centroiding, connected-component analysis, and star-catalog matching.
  • Deploy and optimize models on edge and space-qualified hardware using INT8 quantization, C++, ONNX Runtime, and TensorRT.
  • Generate synthetic spacecraft imagery in Blender and validate end-to-end performance through software-, processor-, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field, either in progress or recently completed.
  • Coursework in computer vision and estimation theory, or willingness to learn both.
  • Proficiency in Python and some exposure to C++.
  • Familiarity with either classical tracking and Kalman filters or deep learning and neural-network training.
  • Understanding of linear algebra, probability, and coordinate transformations, with strong debugging skills.
  • U.S. citizenship or another ITAR-eligible status is required for facility access and government contracts.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Extended Kalman Filters, multi-object tracking, state estimation, PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Knowledge of camera coordinate frames, quaternions, rotation matrices, ECI, LVLH, and RIC frames.
  • Experience with OpenCV, image processing, synthetic data generation, Blender or Unreal, and domain randomization.
  • Exposure to edge deployment, quantization, ONNX, TensorRT, embedded systems, ROS, or multimodal sensor fusion.
  • Prior internship or project experience deploying perception algorithms to embedded systems.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work focuses on autonomous spacecraft and space-superiority technologies.
  • Algorithms are developed for operation under strict compute and power constraints and may operate in orbit.
  • The position is a three-month temporary employment engagement, with potential conversion to regular employment based on performance and business need.
  • Work includes indoor and outdoor conditions as well as physical demands such as sitting, bending, lifting, and driving.
