Senior AI Software Engineer, Perception

Location: Hybrid, based out of offices in Fremont, California; Salem, Oregon; or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. All roles are U.S.-based, and current U.S. work authorization is required.

Salary: $197,000–$307,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and deploy perception algorithms for human detection, hazard understanding, safety, and efficiency.
• Evaluate emerging research and state-of-the-art perception models for future robot architectures.
• Define best practices for model design, implementation, testing, verification, and validation, including rare safety-critical scenarios.
• Optimize deep neural networks and data pipelines for efficient execution on embedded CPU and GPU systems, including CUDA inference.
• Build scalable machine-learning perception software and MLOps workflows covering annotation, data storage, evaluation, and deployment.
• Collaborate with navigation, controls, and hardware teams to integrate perception across the robot.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in machine learning or perception for robotics.
• Master’s or Ph.D. in artificial intelligence, robotics, computer science, or a related discipline.
• Experience building perception systems for safety-critical or safety-rated domains such as human detection, automotive, or robotics.
• Strong expertise in convolutional neural networks, multi-object tracking, human detection, data association, supervised learning, and pose estimation.
• Experience optimizing algorithms for efficient execution across CPU and GPU architectures, plus experience with MLOps.
• Publications in the field are preferred, including work presented at CVPR, ICCV, RSS, or ICRA.

Nice to have

• Experience with perception systems for humanoid or legged robots.
• Experience combining camera, lidar, and infrared camera sensor modalities.
• Knowledge of geometric computer vision and sensor hardware.
