Engineering Manager (Embedded/IoT)

Location: Remote across most locations in the United States, Ontario, or British Columbia, Canada. Travel to company or team offsites is generally expected 1–2 times per year.

Salary: $155,000–$240,000 USD annually for the US; $200,000–$251,000 CAD annually for Canada, plus stock options and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead and support a high-performing engineering team, providing context, technical direction, mentorship, and growth support.
• Partner with engineers and product management to understand customer needs, define solutions, set milestones, and deliver products.
• Guide end-to-end product delivery across edge software, device-to-cloud communication layers, and backend services.
• Balance technical excellence with rapid delivery as products and systems scale.
• Define onboard architecture and implementation practices, including customer-site observations and partner collaboration.
• Support remote development, testing, and debugging of transit hardware systems when not working locally with the hardware lab.

Requirements

• 3+ years of engineering leadership and people-management experience, with continued hands-on technical contribution.
• Experience delivering end-to-end products across cloud-based SaaS environments and embedded hardware.
• Proficiency with Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, MQTT, and SQL databases.
• Experience with serial interfaces, network protocols, messaging patterns, remote deployment, OTA updates, and edge container orchestration.
• Fluency with Linux, including system administration, containerization, process management, networking, and security.
• Experience with cloud-native architectures and services, preferably AWS, plus automated testing, observability, and monitoring.

Nice to have

• Experience with real-time data systems, commercial or consumer devices, and hardware-software integrations.
• Familiarity with modern AI tools and techniques in the software development lifecycle.
• Interest in mobility, sustainability, public transit, or mission-oriented projects.
