Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Remote-first; compensation tiers reference the NYC metro, San Francisco, and other geographic locations.

Salary: $128,000–$183,000 per year, depending on experience and geographic location.

What you will do

• Manage a team of 4+ engineers, owning growth, performance, feedback, mentoring, and team effectiveness.
• Lead hiring for the team, including role scoping, interview loops, candidate evaluation, and hiring decisions.
• Own the team roadmap, technical direction, prioritization, planning, delivery, and risk management for major initiatives.
• Guide ambiguous technical work such as major refactors, new services, architecture improvements, and broadly scoped changes.
• Champion responsible AI-native engineering practices, coach engineers on AI-enabled development tools, and help refine AI workflows and standards.
• Oversee production operations, on-call participation, observability, security, compliance, infrastructure automation, APIs, and deployment pipelines.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience and proficiency in one or more technical areas.
• 2+ years leading and mentoring engineers as a team lead, technical lead, or engineering manager.
• Experience owning technical design and end-to-end delivery of broadly scoped initiatives.
• Strong understanding of scalability, modern web application stacks, infrastructure automation, platform security, and DevOps practices.
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, React, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Docker, PostgreSQL, and AWS.
• Hands-on experience with AI-enabled development tools and agentic engineering, including practical judgment about their benefits and risks.

Nice to have

• Experience with SOC2, vulnerability management, authentication systems, and security and compliance in a SaaS environment.
