Energy Scheduling & Portfolio Lead (Energy Markets): Owning energy availability risk, physical power and gas scheduling, and portfolio forecasting for Anthropic's non-cloud data center portfolio with an accent on ISO/RTO operations, curtailment, demand response, and behind-the-meter supply. Focus on building scheduling models and processes from zero, managing ESA and utility obligations, and keeping energy supply aligned with compute workload and site planning.

Location: Remote-friendly, United States; staff are expected to work from one of Anthropic's offices at least 25% of the time.

Annual salary: $320,000–$405,000 USD

Company

Anthropic builds reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems intended to be safe and beneficial for users and society.

What you will do

  • Own the live view of contracted, available, and committed energy and capacity against planned data center load and ramp.
  • Act as the operational counterpart to LSEs, QSEs, scheduling coordinators, and electricity and gas suppliers across domestic ISO/RTO and international power markets.
  • Forecast and manage curtailment, shortage pricing, reliability events, demand response, flexible interconnection, and load-flexibility commitments.
  • Operate ESA, PPA, utility agreement, and market-program obligations, including outage notices, availability guarantees, dispatch coordination, performance, and exposure.
  • Determine gas scheduling needs and develop nominations, hub-pricing, pipeline-capacity, and outage-response strategies for gas-fired behind-the-meter supply.
  • Build forecasting, metering, settlement, and portfolio-management processes in collaboration with workload planning, site operations, Finance, Legal, Procurement, and engineering.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in energy markets, power scheduling, energy procurement, or utility and retail energy operations.
  • Hands-on experience with scheduling and settlement review in ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, MISO, or another ISO/RTO market.
  • Experience with day-ahead and real-time scheduling, settlements, curtailment, demand response, and large-load operations.
  • Ability to interpret and operate ESA, PPA, utility interconnection, and service-agreement terms.
  • Experience with gas scheduling, nominations, hub pricing, pipeline constraints, and gas-fired plant outages.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

  • Experience with data centers or other large, fast-ramping loads.
  • Experience with behind-the-meter, islanded, or bridge-power configurations.
  • Knowledge of energy hedging, risk management, natural gas markets, metering systems, interval data, and forecasting models.
  • Exposure to large-load tariff proceedings, interconnection rulemakings, utility rate cases, and ISO demand-response programs.

Culture & Benefits

  • Collaborative environment spanning research, engineering, policy, business, finance, legal, and operations.
  • Flexible working hours and a collaborative office environment.
  • Generous vacation and parental leave.
  • Competitive compensation, benefits, and optional equity donation matching.
  • Visa sponsorship is available, subject to role and candidate eligibility.

Hiring process

  • Applications are evaluated against the role qualifications and internal job-level requirements.
  • Anthropic provides guidance on candidate use of AI during the application process.
