Engineering Department Manager (Aerospace): Leading a 200+ person engineering department supporting NASA human health, performance, and space-exploration hardware programs with an accent on project execution, resource allocation, technical oversight, and customer integration. Focus on coordinating complex hardware projects, managing budgets and schedules, driving process improvements, and aligning engineering disciplines with NASA requirements.

Location: Houston, Texas; 100% on site and in person at NASA Johnson Space Center. Occasional travel may be required.

What you will do

  • Lead a 200+ employee engineering department spanning human factors and habitability, project and systems engineering, design and fabrication, hardware testing, sustaining engineering, integration, and food production.
  • Lead, mentor, and guide engineering department managers and leaders.
  • Coordinate, prioritize, and allocate resources across integrated projects.
  • Provide strategic and technical oversight while ensuring projects meet budget and schedule requirements.
  • Serve as the primary customer interface for NASA Human Health and Performance and Engineering Directorate division chiefs.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions, lessons learned, process improvements, collaboration, and innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field.
  • At least 10 years of progressive relevant technical, management, and leadership experience.
  • Experience leading complex hardware projects and integrating work across organizations.
  • Understanding of NASA flight hardware development requirements and processes.
  • Experience with project monitoring and control, resource management, customer communication, and project decision-making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact across organizations and personnel levels.

Nice to have

  • 15 years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with NASA contracts and processes.
  • Experience with process improvement initiatives and collaboration with business and program offices on staffing and financial challenges.
