Principal AI Engineer (Agentic AI)

Location: Hybrid work with three days per week in-office at one of the designated U.S. Tech Market locations: Louisville, KY; New York City, NY; Dallas, TX; Boston, MA; or Washington, D.C.

Salary: $172,200–$236,900 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus incentive plan.

What you will do

• Lead enterprise architecture for secure, scalable, and reliable agentic AI applications.
• Build production-ready autonomous AI applications in collaboration with engineering and data science teams.
• Develop Python backend APIs and services for agentic AI platform functionality and data management.
• Build developer tools, CI/CD pipelines, and automation for application development and deployment.
• Manage cloud-based AI services, Kubernetes infrastructure, security controls, and observability systems.
• Set engineering standards, mentor peers, and guide innovation aligned with the AI technology roadmap.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• 10+ years of professional software or platform engineering experience.
• Deep Python expertise, including production services and shared libraries.
• Hands-on experience with LLM integration, RAG, embeddings, and applied generative AI patterns.
• Machine learning engineering experience covering model deployment, monitoring, evaluation, and lifecycle management.
• Expertise in FastAPI, Flask, REST or gRPC service design, cloud-native development, Docker, and Kubernetes, including at least five years of containerization and orchestration experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex, PydanticAI, or similar generative AI tooling.
• Knowledge of PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experience with distributed systems such as Akka or Flink.
• Experience building platforms rather than one-off applications.
• Pragmatic decision-making focused on maintainability and long-term value.
