TL;DR
Mechanical/Electrical Fitter (Water Treatment): Maintaining and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment for UK MOD projects, including pumps, compressors, generators, hydraulic systems, and water-treatment equipment with an accent on fault diagnosis, inspections, and equipment integration. Focus on interpreting electrical schematics, managing chemical-treatment processes, producing detailed condition reports, and guiding junior technicians.

Location: Full-time on-site in Swindon, Wiltshire, United Kingdom; willingness to travel within the UK and occasionally overseas is required.

What you will do

  • Provide mechanical and electrical technical support covering water, hydraulic, and fuel systems.
  • Maintain, inspect, fault-find, and repair packaged equipment, mainly for water-treatment applications.
  • Work with pumps, compressors, generators, hydraulic systems, control equipment, and associated instrumentation.
  • Plan, participate in, and report on equipment and system operation, including chemical handling and treatment processes.
  • Produce detailed inspection and condition reports for new and recovered equipment.
  • Coordinate equipment packages and provide technical guidance to junior technicians.

Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds Level 3, or an equivalent qualification in mechanical, electrical, or multi-skilled engineering.
  • Proven experience maintaining, diagnosing faults in, and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Full UK driving licence required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate UK Security Clearance required.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting MOD or defence-related equipment.
  • Water-treatment equipment experience.
  • Knowledge of control systems and instrumentation.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior engineers or technicians.
  • Experience with deployed, field-based, or containerised equipment systems.
