Principal UX Designer (AI)

Location: Onsite at the Bentonville Home Office, 1601 SE 10th St, Bentonville, Arkansas, United States

Annual salary: $110,000–$220,000 USD, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Lead UX strategy through user interviews, surveys, contextual inquiries, journey mapping, storyboards, and personas.
• Translate research insights into user-centered interaction and visual design solutions aligned with business and technical requirements.
• Design and prototype scalable interaction patterns across Walmart.com, the Walmart app, in-store touchpoints, operational processes, and associate tools.
• Plan and conduct usability testing, iterate on designs based on customer feedback, and optimize product effectiveness.
• Drive research initiatives and communicate findings to influence product strategy and innovation across multiple business units.
• Mentor team members and promote continuous improvement in a fast-moving product development environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in UI/UX design, graphic design, visual communication, product design, computer science, information technology, or a related field plus 5 years of relevant experience; alternatively, 7 years of relevant experience without the degree requirement.
• Strong visual and interaction design skills with experience applying service design principles across digital, physical, and operational touchpoints.
• Experience with user research, prototyping, usability testing, and interaction design.
• Experience using AI and agentic tools to explore, prototype, and build new experiences.
• Ability to work in fast-moving product pods, test designs with real customer feedback, and refine products as they scale.
• Onsite work at the Bentonville, Arkansas home office is required.

Nice to have

• Design certification, a master’s degree, or related industry experience in retail, supply chain, ecommerce, or healthcare.
• Experience driving product development in a UX area.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and inclusive digital accessibility practices.
