Senior Software Engineer - Akana Sola (Java/Mainframe APIs)

What you will do

• Maintain and enhance Sola, an API enablement product for exposing COBOL, CICS, and IMS/DB2 assets as REST and SOAP APIs.
• Develop and support Java-based IDE and runtime components.
• Design, secure, and expose backend APIs through API management gateways.
• Work with SQL and NoSQL databases and CI/CD pipelines.
• Learn and develop mainframe capabilities under mentorship from senior engineers.
• Participate in product demonstrations, pre-sales conversations, and on-call support for mission-critical customer applications.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 6+ years of hands-on software development experience.
• Strong Java and API foundation, including RESTful and SOAP web services.
• Experience with JavaScript, databases such as DB2, Oracle, MS SQL, or MySQL, CI/CD, Git, and version control.
• Ability to learn and enhance long-lived legacy codebases, solve complex problems, and troubleshoot under pressure.
• Strong communication, ownership, collaboration, and willingness to participate in an on-call/off-hours rotation.

Nice to have

• UI development with JavaScript frameworks, Bootstrap, or jQuery.
• Python scripting or development experience.
• Docker and Kubernetes familiarity.
• Exposure to Linux on mainframe, including zLinux.
• Prior exposure to COBOL, CICS, DB2 programming, JCL, batch COBOL, IBM MQ Series, Mainframe Assembler, or Natural.
