Director, Canadian Banking Controller

Location: Toronto, ON, Canada; hybrid arrangement with 1–3 days per week onsite at Toronto-81 Bay

What you will do

• Lead financial controllership for Canadian banking business units focused on credit cards, mortgages, and personal lending.
• Manage a team of finance professionals and oversee an offshore managed service team.
• Deliver accurate and timely statutory, regulatory, subsidiary, and management reporting.
• Own month-end and quarter-end close activities, financial analysis, general ledger accuracy, and resolution of control deficiencies.
• Provide accounting guidance, investigate issues, and act as a finance advisor on strategic projects and business initiatives.
• Drive continuous improvements that strengthen controls, reduce financial reporting risks, and improve finance operations.

Requirements

• Current CPA designation or equivalent accounting accreditation in good standing.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience working in complex financial services organizations.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to translate technical accounting guidance into business implications.
• Experience coaching and developing high-performing teams.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada at the specified location and hold a valid work or study permit where applicable.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of credit cards, mortgages, and personal lending systems and processes.
• Experience with financial services controllership operations.
