Principal Systems Engineer / Systems Architect (Weapons)

Location: On-site at Eglin AFB, Florida, United States; standard schedule with core hours 0900–1500. Low travel required.

What you will do

• Serve as principal systems engineer and architect for evolving the Weapons Government Reference Architecture and Weapons Open Systems Architecture into an implementable framework for conventional weapon systems.
• Lead MBSE activities defining physical parameters, constraints, interfaces, attributes, and model-based severable data packages.
• Develop architecture viewpoints, SysML system models, interface definitions, requirements relationships, reusable model libraries, and reference patterns.
• Define technical requirements, configuration controls, intellectual-property boundaries, and acceptance criteria for data packages supporting subsystem competition, integration, and replacement.
• Evaluate modular interfaces and architecture standards for seekers, propulsion, payloads, mission electronics, guidance, datalinks, power systems, and other weapon domains.
• Coordinate with Government program offices, technical authorities, digital engineering teams, test organizations, acquisition stakeholders, and industry partners; lead architecture and model reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in systems, aerospace, mechanical, electrical, computer engineering, or a related technical field.
• 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in systems engineering, architecture, digital engineering, MBSE, open systems architecture, weapon-system development, or related defense and aerospace domains.
• Hands-on MBSE experience with complex DoD aerospace, missile, munition, or weapon systems, including modular technical data packages, interface-control models, reusable architecture libraries, or reference implementations.
• Expert practical proficiency with SysML, including SysML v1 and SysML v2, requirements relationships, interfaces, system architecture, and technical baselines.
• Experience translating physical constraints, mechanical and electrical interfaces, environmental conditions, form and fit considerations, modularity parameters, and verification needs into system models.
• Active Secret clearance required.

Nice to have

• 20+ years of relevant systems engineering, weapon-system architecture, MBSE, modular open systems, digital engineering, or aerospace and defense experience.
• Advanced engineering degree and experience with Weapons GRA, WOSA, Government Reference Architectures, or comparable open-systems frameworks.
• Experience linking architecture decisions to industrial-base expansion, supplier interchangeability, second-source qualification, technology insertion, affordability, and production scalability.
• INCOSE CSEP or ESEP, OMG OCSMP, or DAWIA Engineering certification.
• Active Top Secret clearance or TS/SCI eligibility.
