Director, Immunology

Location: Onsite in San Diego, California, United States

Salary: $170,000–$225,000 annual base pay, plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits.

What you will do

• Lead immunology and cell biology strategy for target validation, mechanism-of-action characterization, and biomarker discovery across the portfolio.
• Design and oversee cell-based assays using primary human immune cells and ex vivo disease-relevant models.
• Direct immunological support for early-phase antibody discovery, including target engagement, functional potency, and selectivity assays.
• Drive immunology and pharmacology activities for IND-enabling studies, biomarker strategy, and translational assay development.
• Build, lead, and mentor the immunology team, including hiring, performance management, and professional development.
• Manage CROs and external collaborators, align cross-functional work with milestones, and present strategic recommendations to senior leadership and governance committees.

Requirements

• PhD or equivalent postgraduate degree in Immunology or a related field, with 12+ years of academic and relevant biotechnology or pharmaceutical experience.
• Industry experience in discovery and translational immunology within autoimmunity and inflammation is required.
• People management experience and experience leading project teams are required.
• Experience managing CROs and vendors, developing therapeutic projects, and selecting clinical candidates.
• Proven ability to advance programs through discovery, IND-enabling studies, and IND filing.
• Strong scientific rigor, analytical and interpersonal skills, communication abilities, autonomy, and comfort working with ambiguity.
