Director, Immunology

Location: San Diego, California, United States; onsite

Base salary: $170,000–$225,000 per year, plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits.

What you will do

• Lead immunology and cell biology strategy for target validation, mechanism-of-action characterization, and biomarker discovery across the portfolio.
• Design, develop, and oversee cell-based assays using primary human immune cells and ex vivo disease-relevant models.
• Direct immunological support for early-phase antibody drug discovery, including target engagement, functional potency, and selectivity assays.
• Drive immunology and pharmacology activities for IND-enabling studies, including biomarker strategy and translational assay development.
• Build, lead, and mentor the immunology team while managing hiring, performance, development, CROs, and external collaborators.
• Present data, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and governance committees for portfolio and go/no-go decisions.

Requirements

• PhD or equivalent postgraduate degree in immunology or a related field, with 12 or more years of academic and relevant biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience.
• Required biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience in discovery and translational immunology focused on autoimmunity and inflammation.
• Experience developing cell-based assays, leading preclinical therapeutic programs, and selecting clinical candidates.
• Prior people management experience and experience leading project teams are required.
• Experience managing CROs and vendors, with a track record of advancing programs through discovery, IND-enabling studies, and IND filing.
• Ability to work onsite in San Diego, California.
