Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Berlin, Germany; hybrid with an expectation of working onsite three days per week. Employees may work remotely from abroad for up to 30 days per year.

What you will do

• Build, test, and operate services within the Boarding platform using a you-build-it, you-run-it ahirify.globalach.
• Develop readable, decoupled, and testable code with unit and integration test coverage across the testing pyramid.
• Use observability tooling to monitor and improve owned services, including reading dashboards and responding to alerts.
• Participate in incident response, systematic debugging, and blameless postmortems.
• Collaborate with Boarding squads and stakeholder teams including Compliance, Product, and Risk.
• Independently manage team-scoped work, reprioritise when needed, and take ownership of delivery outcomes.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of hands-on software engineering experience.
• Professional experience with Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIs.
• Experience with event-driven microservice architecture, such as SQS, SNS, Kinesis, or equivalent technologies.
• Understanding of AWS cloud fundamentals, including EKS, DynamoDB, or equivalent managed services.
• Experience with testing across the pyramid and comfort with test-driven development.
• Ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, communicate blockers, and take ownership through completion.

Nice to have

• Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code experience.
• Payments, fintech, KYC, or compliance domain experience.
• Hands-on use of AI tools in the software development lifecycle.
