Engineer II, Kotlin/Java (Logistics Optimisation, Routing Core)

Location: Berlin, Germany; hybrid work with attendance at the Berlin campus 2 days a week

What you will do

• Own courier-routing services from system design through deployment and ongoing operation.
• Develop a high-throughput dispatch service connecting riders and vendors with customers.
• Build scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant backend systems.
• Write clean, maintainable Kotlin/Java code in collaboration with the Dispatching team.
• Improve last-mile delivery efficiency, affordability, and sustainability across logistics operations.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional application development experience.
• Professional proficiency in Kotlin, the JVM, or similar technologies.
• Understanding of service-oriented and microservices architecture patterns.
• Experience with NoSQL databases.
• Strong problem-solving and collaborative mindset.
• Willingness to work from Berlin in a hybrid model with 2 office days per week.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of distributed systems and horizontal scalability.
• Experience with highly concurrent systems and multithreading.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker, continuous integration, AWS, or Google Cloud.
• Experience solving large-scale logistics problems.
• Frontend development experience or willingness to learn frontend development for internal tools.
