Staff Software Engineer (Data)

Location: Berlin, Germany; 80% office presence and 20% mobile working

What you will do

• Design, develop, and operate large-scale distributed data systems for media and advertising products.
• Own the full lifecycle of systems, including architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, operations, and evolution.
• Define data models, pipelines, and APIs that enable reliable, high-quality data delivery.
• Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and product teams to improve platforms and introduce new solutions.
• Optimize platform performance and contribute to technical excellence, observability, and reliability.
• Explore emerging technologies and provide technical guidance and mentoring through hands-on expertise.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent expertise.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering complex, high-impact systems at scale.
• Deep proficiency in at least two modern programming languages and ecosystems.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems and large-scale microservice architectures in AWS, GCP, Azure, or equivalent cloud environments.
• Experience delivering resilient, high-performance data or application platforms, including event-driven, real-time, or multi-region systems.
• Strong knowledge of systems design, data modeling, orchestration, schema evolution, query optimization, software lifecycle management, observability, and reliability engineering.
