TL;DR
Flight Test Engineer (Aerospace): Planning and executing complex ground and flight test programs for advanced aircraft systems with an accent on test requirements, instrumentation, flight data analysis, and safety. Focus on managing flight test events, evaluating aircraft performance and system functionality, and producing actionable technical reports for autonomous air refueling and national security programs.

Location: Onsite in Beavercreek, Ohio, United States. Minimal travel and standard working hours.

What you will do

  • Lead planning, coordination, and execution of complex ground and flight test programs across aircraft platforms and systems.
  • Define test requirements and develop flight test plans, procedures, test cards, performance criteria, and safety standards.
  • Manage ground and flight test events, including range and airspace coordination, pre-flight briefings, and post-flight debriefings.
  • Instrument test assets and manage sensors and data acquisition systems for comprehensive flight test data collection.
  • Analyze flight test data to assess aircraft performance, handling qualities, and system functionality.
  • Prepare technical reports, evaluate vendor deliverables, identify risks, and develop mitigation strategies; potentially serve as Test Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a closely related STEM field.
  • At least 10 years of hands-on flight test engineering experience covering the full test lifecycle.
  • Active Secret security clearance required.
  • Experience defining test requirements, developing test plans and procedures, executing flight tests, analyzing flight data, and producing comprehensive reports.
  • Strong knowledge of aircraft systems, avionics, flight controls, performance analysis, flight test instrumentation, sensors, and data acquisition systems.
  • Knowledge of FAA and/or military specifications and certification requirements, with strong written, verbal, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance and 15+ years of hands-on test experience.
  • Experience with aerial refueling, unmanned aircraft, collaborative combat aircraft, mission systems, temporary aircraft modifications, and mission planning.
  • Experimental Test Pilot School or FAA Flight Analyst DER background, military standards knowledge, and DAWIA Test and Evaluation certification.
  • Experience with MATLAB, LabVIEW, and supporting software architecture.
