Applied AI Engineer (Life Sciences)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; staff must work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time

Annual salary: $280,000–$320,000 USD

What you will do

• Partner with life sciences research institutions to understand scientific workflows and build systems integrated into daily research.
• Develop reusable MCP servers for genomics platforms, literature databases, experimental repositories, and scientific instruments.
• Create scientifically grounded benchmarks and reusable agent skills for adoption across research institutions.
• Investigate challenges in life sciences AI deployment, including heterogeneous data, auditability, and the prototype-to-trust gap.
• Feed deployment findings back to product, engineering, and research teams.
• Create technical content and documentation that enables partners to self-serve and scale successful solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Relevant education or professional experience in life sciences, biomedical research, or scientific computing.
• Experience building LLM-powered tools or applications using prompting, context engineering, agent architectures, or evaluation frameworks.
• Experience shipping production code as a software engineer, forward-deployed engineer, or technical founder.
• Ability to work across multiple responsibilities, build from scratch, and operate effectively in ambiguous situations.
• Visa sponsorship is available, subject to role and candidate eligibility.

Nice to have

• Technical experience in genomics, neuroscience, or drug discovery.
