Lead Accountant

Location: Hybrid in Leatherhead, Surrey, United Kingdom, with 3 days per week in the office. The main UK premises are planned to relocate from Leatherhead in Q4. Applicants must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance, requiring UK nationality and a demonstrable five-year history of living and working in the UK.

What you will do

• Lead and develop a small accounting team responsible for general ledger integrity and accurate financial records.
• Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Prepare management financial reports and support UK statutory accounts.
• Act as a key contact for internal and external audits.
• Drive improvements across accounting processes, controls, and reporting practices.
• Collaborate with tax, reporting, operational, and remote teams on financial and strategic initiatives.

Requirements

• Professionally qualified accountant with ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent certification.
• Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyse financial data and produce meaningful reports.
• Thorough knowledge of US GAAP and UK GAAP.
• Technical accounting experience, preferably in project-based or government contracting environments.
• Understanding of SOX compliance and US audit requirements, with experience managing internal and external audits.
• Eligibility for the required security clearance, including UK nationality and five years of living and working in the UK.
