TL;DR
Senior Turbopump Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and developing liquid rocket engine turbopump hardware from architecture and detailed design through fabrication, hot fire testing, and flight with an accent on turbomachinery integration, rotordynamics, structural analysis, and cryogenic materials. Focus on closing hardware verification, leading test campaigns and anomaly investigations, and taking high-speed rotating hardware through build and flight qualification.

Location: Greater Seattle Area; on-site

Salary: $165,000–$210,000 annually

Company

hirify.global builds satellite infrastructure for the orbital economy, including systems for space-based power generation, infrared energy transmission, on-orbit computing, and secure optical data transfer.

What you will do

  • Own the mechanical design and development of turbopump hardware from concept through hot fire testing and flight.
  • Lead pump and turbine architecture trades involving shaft speed, stage count, bearings, seals, and engine-cycle integration.
  • Integrate hydrodynamic, aerodynamic, structural, rotordynamic, thermal, secondary-flow, and bearing constraints into buildable design definitions.
  • Perform and direct hand calculations, FEA, rotordynamic modeling, axial-thrust analysis, secondary-flow analysis, and life prediction.
  • Drive hardware through fabrication, testing, configuration control, refurbishment, and root-cause investigations.
  • Review engineering designs, mentor Level I–III engineers, and work directly with machinists and technicians to improve producibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of turbomachinery fundamentals, including hydrodynamic and aerodynamic performance, rotordynamics, secondary flow, and structural life.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD, released manufacturable design definitions, GD&T, and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Experience with structural and thermal analysis using FEA and hand calculations, validated against test data.
  • Hands-on experience taking hardware from design through build and test, including materials and manufacturing-process selection for high-stress, high-cycle applications.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or a protected individual lawfully admitted to the United States under the stated ITAR requirements.

Nice to have

  • 8+ years of turbomachinery or turbopump experience and an advanced engineering degree.
  • Experience with liquid rocket engine turbopumps, reusable propulsion systems, or taking a turbopump from a clean sheet through first hot fire.
  • Experience with cryogenic hardware, rotating machinery, dynamic seals, bearing selection, axial-thrust balancing, additive manufacturing, castings, or forgings.
  • Experience mentoring early-career engineers, leading hardware root-cause investigations, and working in a fast-moving hardware startup or early-stage program.

Culture & Benefits

  • Equity in hirify.global.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and eligible dependents.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan, paid time off, 10 paid holidays, and paid parental leave.
  • Relocation assistance where applicable.
  • Daily office lunch and a stocked kitchen with beverages and snacks.
