Senior Distributed Systems Engineer (Go)

Location: Remote within the United States, across the continental US. In-person onboarding may take place at the Ann Arbor headquarters.

Salary: $174,000–$206,000 USD annually in high-cost-of-living areas including San Francisco Bay, New York City, and Seattle; $151,000–$191,000 USD annually in other locations, plus bonus eligibility and equity. Compensation is localized based on work location.

What you will do

• Build large-scale, real-time services and applications powered by massive datasets for internal APIs and external products.
• Develop tooling, libraries, frameworks, and services supporting security, research, and data platform initiatives.
• Productionize prototypes into reliable internal tools, services, and platform capabilities.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines, messaging systems, databases, caching layers, and cloud or on-premise services.
• Participate in technical planning with engineering and product teams to design maintainable solutions.
• Collaborate with Machine Learning Engineers and Security Researchers on solutions that improve security outcomes.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building distributed systems such as data ingestion pipelines, databases, or services.
• Experience with object-oriented programming and Go.
• Experience with at least one cloud provider, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with message queue technologies and databases such as Kinesis, Pub/Sub, Kafka, Bigtable, Cloud Spanner, HBase, or Cassandra.
• Understanding of scalability, fault tolerance, and reliability in distributed systems.
• Ability to write understandable, testable, maintainable code and communicate effectively with engineers and product managers.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with gRPC or REST and data serialization technologies such as Protobuf or MessagePack.
• Experience deploying or maintaining containerized services in Kubernetes.
• Understanding of Internet protocols and how machines and services communicate.
• Security domain knowledge.
