TL;DR
Senior Program Officer, Integrated Surveillance for NTDs (Global Health Surveillance): Developing evidence-based post-validation surveillance strategies and operational research portfolios for neglected tropical diseases with an accent on integrated health systems, digital health infrastructure, and AI-enabled decision-making. Focus on designing surveillance architectures, generating evidence for global standards, and aligning Ministries of Health, donors, and international partners across African country programs.

Location: Seattle, WA, United States. Relocation support to Seattle is provided. Unrestricted work authorization in the United States is required; immigration-related sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $262,200–$406,400 USD annually for Seattle and Washington, D.C. locations.

What you will do

  • Lead the innovation agenda for post-validation and post-elimination surveillance across six priority neglected tropical diseases.
  • Develop evidence-based surveillance strategies that combine disease-specific requirements with integrated, sustainable health-system platforms.
  • Design and oversee operational research on reporting cadence, geographic resolution, trigger thresholds, sampling algorithms, and treatment cessation decisions.
  • Generate evidence for WHO guidelines, ESPEN technical frameworks, and cross-disease surveillance standards.
  • Partner with country programs and regional bodies in Africa, with an anticipated focus on Ethiopia, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
  • Represent the Foundation with Ministries of Health, public health institutes, donors, multilateral agencies, technical working groups, and external innovators.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree such as a PhD, MD, MPH, or equivalent in epidemiology, public health, infectious disease, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of global health experience, including NTD or campaign-based health programs, disease surveillance, and multi-disease integration in Africa.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and leading operational research in African contexts.
  • Experience with digital health surveillance infrastructures and applying AI or epidemiological modeling to public health decision-making.
  • Experience working with WHO headquarters and AFRO, Ministries of Health, and National Public Health Institutes across Africa.
  • Must hold unrestricted work authorization in the United States; visa or immigration-related sponsorship is not provided.
