TL;DR
Staff Controls Engineer (Network & Cybersecurity): Designing and securing plant-floor network infrastructure for automated manufacturing and test control systems with an accent on network segmentation, industrial protocols, and equipment security validation. Focus on integrating cybersecurity mitigations, supporting incident response and disaster recovery, and establishing secure network standards across global manufacturing sites.

Location: On-site in Acton, Massachusetts, United States; approximately 20% domestic and international travel.

Annual base salary for U.S.-based positions: $141,600–$212,400, plus possible incentive compensation.

What you will do

  • Design and implement VLANs, IP addressing schemes, firewalls, and network segmentation for manufacturing zones and enterprise networks.
  • Secure plant-floor infrastructure supporting PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, robots, safety systems, I/O, and manufacturing data collection.
  • Review equipment network and security requirements during vendor selection and verify compliance through FAT/SAT.
  • Coordinate with IT on network architecture documentation, IP schemas, asset inventories, and manufacturing infrastructure.
  • Enable need-based access for on-site and remote equipment users and support manufacturing-system incident investigation and recovery.
  • Contribute to disaster recovery, business continuity, process validation, audits, and global manufacturing security standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of hands-on network engineering and/or cybersecurity implementation experience.
  • Experience with network architecture, segmentation, remote access, firewall administration, and industrial control systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, or OPC UA and industrial switches including Cisco IE, Allen-Bradley Stratix, or Moxa.
  • Knowledge of IEC 62443, NIST SP 800, Zero Trust, MITRE ATT&CK, and cyber-attack analysis.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a regulated medical device manufacturing environment and travel domestically and internationally.

Nice to have

  • CCNA, PCNSE, GCFA, GCIH, GCTI, or GICSP certification.
  • Experience with CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Microsoft Defender, Dragos, Claroty, Armis, Nozomi, or runZero.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation, Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware/Hyper-V, computer systems validation, 21 CFR Part 11, and ALCOA+.
