What you will do
- Define combustor requirements from engine cycle data, thrust targets, pressure-loss limits, emissions targets, ignition envelopes, and turbine inlet temperature constraints.
- Develop combustor architectures covering dome and primary-zone design, swirlers, fuel injection, dilution, and cooling strategies.
- Perform preliminary sizing, first-principles calculations, empirical correlation, and iterative design trade-offs.
- Refine combustor geometry through concept, preliminary, detailed, and verification phases.
- Analyse flow behaviour, mixing efficiency, ignition, flame stability, liner heat load, and exit temperature distribution.
- Support CFD, rig testing, and full-engine testing, then drive design improvements based on measured performance, operability, and durability results.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 8–10 years of progressive experience in gas turbine combustion, combustor design, or propulsion system development.
- Strong knowledge of swirl, recirculation, fuel atomisation, flame stabilisation, liner cooling, dilution, and turbine temperature management.
- Experience across the complete combustor design lifecycle, from concept development through verification and testing.
- Ability to correlate CFD and analytical results with rig or engine test data and implement design improvements.
- Ability to collaborate with performance, aerodynamics, mechanical design, materials, manufacturing, and test teams.
